Diane Benson responds to Berkowitz character attack
August 18, 2008

Anchorage: Congressional candidate Diane Benson released the following statement today in response to yesterday's article titled "State Files Criminal Charges Against Lobbyist" in the Anchorage Daily News:
"I am deeply disappointed in Ethan Berkowitz and his Congressional campaign. I did not expect him, through a spokesperson, to attack my character in response to my call for him to return lobbyist money."

In these times, whenthe number of women in Congress has leveled off, it is great to see Diane Benson waging a spirited fight for Congress in traditionally Republican Alaska.
In 2006, Benson ran an impressive race against Republican Representative Don Young for Alaska's single at-large seat. She spent approximately 10% as much as her opponent but still won over 40% of the vote – only the third time in 33 years a Democratic challenger had crossed that threshold in vying for the seat.
Congressional hopefuls address energy
July 20, 2008
Benson said partisan politics should be put aside to solve the energy problems faced by Americans today.
"Frankly a lot of what happens to this discussion is the politicizing of energy," she said. "I think a lot of that happens because of the big money involved in campaigns."
Alaska Candidates on the Couch

“Diane Benson was at the top of her game. She was witty, poised, and unintimidated. My favorite Benson moment followed Don Young’s proclamation that he is-was-and-always-will-be pro-life. She answered that she is pro-life too, which is why she doesn’t support the death penalty, and doesn’t think we should “go to war at the drop of a hat”, but that matters of a woman’s body are private, and between her and her doctor. Zzzing!”
21st Century Democrats Endorse Diane Benson
July 17, 2008
“The time has come for America to change the guard from a culture of corporate corruption and lobbyists, to one which will demonstrate ethics and accountability. It is my wish that as we enter this new era, we as Democrats will represent the best in American principles. That our policies, both foreign and domestic, will demonstrate a moral courage so great that America will not merely be feared but once again admired by the world.”
Barbecue with Diane Benson, Veterans, bloggers and a bird
Let me "show my hand" at the outset...yes, I am a fan and supporter of Diane Benson. However, it's always been mostly from afar. Until Sunday, I had never introduced myself, asked her a direct question or spoken to her much other than in a stage manager capacity...and in an apologetic way...at the Gathering. But that's another story...
Diane Benson's statement on the recent FISA bill
July 11, 2008
This week the Senate voted to pass President Bush’s FISA bill amendment. A bill that will grant retroactive immunity to telecommunication corporations that violated the constitutional rights of an untold number of American citizens. This is not acceptable.
Benson asks Young to open up about FBI investigation
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - 1 of Don Young's challengers is asking him to finally open up and talk about the federal investigation aimed at him.
The request from Democrat Diane Benson comes after it was revealed today (Thursday) that the Republican is paying the legal fees of his campaign manager.
Benson calls the entire situation "embarrassing for Alaskans."
Round Two
Diane Benson, the Tlingit woman running as a Democrat for Don Young’s seat in the U.S. House of representatives, has done this before. You probably remember. In 2006 Benson, after defeating Ray Metcalfe in the Democratic primary, gave Young a harder race than most expected, and ended up with more than 40 percent of the votes, one of the toughest races Young’s run in his 17 terms.
House Incumbents Face Primary Worries
Democrats, who typically have all but ceded the state’s only House seat to Young’s political clout, this year are gearing up for a serious takeover bid, with their nomination sought by state Rep. Ethan Berkowitz and author Diane Benson, who as the party’s 2006 nominee held Young to an unusually low 57 percent of the vote. CQ Politics currently rates the general election contest as No Clear Favorite.
