Peratrovitch Dedication
June 21 Diane presented the speech that Elizabeth Peratrovich delivered to the Territorial Legislature in 1945. Her impassioned words stirred the gathering and helped swing the vote for passage of the first Anti-Discrimination Act in the United States. |
June 30 Roy Peratrovich's bronze and stainless steel sculpture, Flight of the Raven, was dedicated at the Roy and Elizabeth Peratrovich Park in downtown Anchorage. A crystal in the Raven's mouth symbolizes the sun. |
June 30 Attending the dedication was Elizabeth's granddaughter, Betsy Peratrovich shown here with Diane. At the end of one of the performances of Diane's play, When My Spirit Raised Its Hands: The Story of Elizabeth Peratrovich and Alaskan Civil Rights, Betsy presented Diane with a beautiful hanky that had been needle pointed with Forget-Me-Nots by Elizabeth herself. |
